SOUTHGATE MASONIC CENTRE

An update from W Bro Rod Newson SLGR, Chairman & Secretary of Southgate Masonic Centre

Set in the London suburb of Southgate, close to Southgate underground station (Piccadilly Line) and serviced by several bus routes, Southgate Masonic Centre is handily placed to act as the Masonic home for nearly 90 units – not only Craft Lodges and Royal Arch Chapters but Mark and Royal Ark Mariners Lodges and many of the appendant Orders and Rose Croix.

We have three temples (including two large temples) suitable for the majority of meetings and a small Chapter suite – with separate dining halls/rooms for each. We are also able to convert two of the dining halls to form one large room suitable for all types of functions.

That is when we are able to operate normally but as we know, we are not in normal times. Covid-19 and what seems like constant regulation changes have proven extremely challenging for the Southgate Masonic Centre but, like most Freemasons, we have been up for the challenge!

With the support of Metropolitan Grand Lodge, our member units and a very generous grant from the Province of Middlesex (to help pay for PPE and make the Centre “Covid secure”), along with a “rates” holiday and the job retention scheme, we have kept the Centre in a state of readiness for when we can meet properly again – hopefully in the not too distant future!

In these difficult times, please keep safe and remember our Southgate motto: BE WISE, SANITISE!
